Air Conditioner Maintenance Is Essential To Get The Most Out Of Your System!

Regular air conditioning maintenance is really no different to your regular car maintenance: you can pay a little bit for routine service or wait and pay a lot more for major repairs.

Many people do wait until their air conditioner is making a strange noise or isn’t running properly before they call for service.  But did you know that even if your air conditioner seems to be running smoothly, it can lose about 5% of its operational efficiency every year?

Studies show that with regular servicing a unit will maintain up to 95% of its original efficiency. This means that the cost of a regular service is quickly recovered in savings on your monthly electricity bill and in reduced repair costs. A properly serviced air conditioner will also do a better job of dehumidifying your home.

Reliance Heating and Cooling offer a range of maintenance programs from Monthly, Quarterly, 6 Monthly & Annually to suit your individual requirement and ensure that your air conditioning unit continues to run efficiently. Benefits of a yearly maintenance include:

  • Reduced power bills.
  • Maintain units optimum performance.
  • Increase life span of units.
  • Reduce potential call out costs.
  • Keeps AC units hygienically clean and fresh.
  • Peace of mind.

The costs of a yearly maintenance are extremely affordable from $175 Inc gst for single split system. Saving you $$Hundreds in energy costs with a more efficient and effective air conditioner.

Air Conditioner Maintenance Saves You Money!

Energy Rating labels have become an essential part of our buying and decision-making process. Most Air-conditioners have a rating between 1–6 stars. This includes the majority of window/wall and split systems but excludes most whole-house systems which usually have a greater output. Efficient units produce more heat or cooler air, for each unit of electricity used. For similarly-sized units, one of high efficiency (3–6 star) can be up to $220 a year cheaper to run than a 1- 2 star unit. Also with Air-conditioner units losing up to 5% of its operational efficiency every year,  and the simple act of replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 15%. Regular maintenance becomes a real cost saving necessity.

Did You Know The Average Air-con Unit Will Lose Up To 5%  Performance and Efficiency EVERY YEAR?

Maintenance Parts of Your Air Conditioner

An air conditioner’s filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.

AIR CONDITIONER FILTERS:

The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters. Clogged, dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a system’s efficiency significantly. With normal airflow obstructed, air that bypasses the filter may carry dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil’s heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 15%.

For central air conditioners, filters are generally located somewhere along the return duct’s length. Common filter locations are in walls, ceilings, or in the air conditioner itself. Room air conditioners have a filter mounted in the grill that faces into the room.

Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced. They are available in a variety of types and efficiencies. Clean or replace your air conditioning system’s filter or filters every month or two during the cooling season. Filters may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in constant use, is subjected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house.

Air Conditioner Maintenance PartsAIR CONDITIONER COILS
The air conditioner’s evaporator coil and condenser coil collect dirt over their months and years of service. A clean filter prevents the evaporator coil from soiling quickly. In time, however, the evaporator coil will still collect dirt. This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. To avoid this problem, have your evaporator coil checked every year.

Outdoor condenser coils can also become very dirty if the outdoor environment is dusty or if there is foliage nearby. You can easily see the condenser coil and notice if dirt is collecting on its fins.

You should minimize dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Your dryer vents, falling leaves, and lawn mower are all potential sources of dirt and debris. Cleaning the area around the coil, removing any debris, and trimming foliage back at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) allow for adequate airflow around the condenser.

COIL FINS:

The aluminum fins on evaporator and condenser coils are easily bent and can block airflow through the coil. Air conditioning wholesalers sell a tool called a “fin comb” that will comb these fins back into nearly original condition.

CONDENSATE DRAINS

Occasionally pass a stiff wire through the unit’s drain channels. Clogged drain channels prevent a unit from reducing humidity, and the resulting excess moisture may discolor walls or carpet.

If It’s Not Cool, It’s Probably Out Of Refrigerant.

All our licensed technicians hold a full refrigeration and air conditioning qualification and are authorised to undertake any maintenance work required, including work involving the handling of refrigerant. Your air conditioner may have an issue with the components that hold and/or circulate the refrigerant within the unit. This could cause it to leak out of the system. If a leak exists, all affected parts must be repaired or replaced before the unit can be refilled with refrigerant.

Like your car regular maintenance of your air conditioner, will ensure that it is operating at its optimal performance which will also prolong its life. By servicing your air conditioner you will also reduce your power usage and save money on your electricity bill!
